June 28 - Cubs A Splits Wood Bat Games
The Cubs A team split its games in its home Lions Wood Bat Tournament, topping Thunder Ridge, Colorado 3-2 Friday night and shutting out Jackson 8-0 on Sunday around a pair of losses on Saturday. Central High School of Grand Junction, CO went 4-0 to capture the tournament title.

Cubs 3, Thunder Ridge 2
Devin Roblyer (1-0) allowed only 3 hits and 1 run over 6 innings in his first start for the A team and Connor Norton and Kyle Hurley were each 2-3 at the plate to lead the Cubs to victory. Daniel Sinner came on in the 7th and allowed a run but earned his second save.

Cubs 4, Riverton 10
Hurley (2-2) and Norton (2-4) were the only bright spots in a line up that struggled to get the offense going again. Starting pitcher Jacob Welch (1-1) took the loss.

Cubs 3, Central HS of Grand Junction 7
The Cubs played a solid game against the top team in the tournament, but fell short. Norton (4-2) pitched a complete game in a losing effort. Welch was 2-3 at the plate

Cubs 8, Jackson 0
Don Brockus (2-4) pitched a complete game 5-hitter for the victory, striking out seven. Jeremy Tuten (2-3 with a pair of doubles) and Sinner (3-3) led the offense. Roblyer added a double.

June 27 - Cubs B Earn Split in Sheridan
Skylar Peterson was 3-5 with a double and the Cubs B team scored nine runs in the 6th inning to turn a 2-8 deficit into an 11-8 lead before going on to win 12-10. Connor Webster (2-1) earned the victory in relief, with Chase Nelson picking up his first save. Nelson was also 2-4 at the plate, and Cameron Schmidt was 2-5.

The Cubs fell in the opener 15-5. Peterson was 2-4 with a double in that game, but suffered is his first loss of the season on the hill. Cody Klass added a pair of hits in three at-bats.


June 24 - Cubs A Splits With Lovell, B Sweeps Halos
It took them awhile to get going, but the Cubs A team came back from a 0-8 deficit to top the Lovell Mustangs 13-12 in 8 innings in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday night. Devin Roblyer hit his first home run as a Cub during the comeback, then scored the winning run in the 8th. He was 2-4.

After knotting the score at 10-10 in the sixth, the teams played a scoreless seventh before Lovell plated two runs in the top of the 8th. The Cubs responded with three in the bottom of the frame. Daniel Sinner (1-2) came on in the 6th and got the victory. Sinner was also 2-4 at the plate with a double and a triple. Connor Norton was 3-4 with a double, Caleb Rivera was 2-4, and Jeremy Tuten added a double.

The bats went silent again in game 2, as the Mustangs jumped ahead again and ran on to an 11-1 victory. Starter Kyle Hurley (0-2) took the loss.

Meanwhile, up in Billings, the B team was sweeping the Emmanuel Halos. They won the opener 10-6 behind a complete game from Trevor Fink (1-1) and a 3-5 game at the plate from Skylar Peterson.

The Cubs B then put a shellacking on the Halos in game 2, winning 21-6. Chase Nelson (2-0) got the win, with big offensive nights from Tuney Barrus (4-4), Cody Klass (3-4), Andrew Blaylock (2-3), Fink (2-4), and Peteson (2-5).


June 23 - Cubs A Bats Silenced by Pioneers, B Team Romps
The Cubs A team bats were silenced by Pioneer pitching in Powell Tuesday night, as they managed only one hit in each game of the doubleheader, falling 4-8 in the opener and 0-11 in the nightcap. Connor Norton (4-1) got both of those hits, but also suffered his first loss of the season on the mound in game 1. Don Brockus (1-4) continued to struggle to find his groove and took the loss in game 2.

The Cubs B team dominated a young travel team from Casper in a doubleheader at the Simpson, winning the opener 13-10 and crushing the Casper team 27-3 in the nightcap. Sklyar Peterson improved to 3-0 on the mound in game one, and Cameron Schmidt (1-2) earned his first victory in game 2. No details available on the hitting, but the word from the field is that there were multiple base hits from all over the lineup.


June 18 - Cubs Drop Another Road Game
The Cubs struggled on the road once again, falling to the Riverton Raiders 4-7. Jeremy Tuten was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs to provide the bulk of the Cub offense, and also threw out three attempted basestealers. Kyle Hurley was also 2-4. Don Brockus (1-3) started on the mound and took the loss. Game 2 was once again rained out.


Jack Schmidt Out For The Season
Jack Schmidt broke his wrist at the Chadron football camp and has been lost for the season. The injury is a big blow to the B team as Jack had been on a hitting tear prior to the injury. Best wishes, Jack, for a full and fast recovery.
